Privacy Policy

King & Company (and its related entities) is committed to protecting user privacy. We understand and appreciate that clients and users of this website are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that may be provided to us.

We are subject to the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (and subsequent amendments). The NPPs govern the way we collect, use, disclose and secure personal information. They also permit you to access the information we hold about you in order to correct or update it. Such information may be held on our behalf by its agents or other service providers that we may appoint.

Collection and Use of Your Personal Information

We collect personal information when we provide our services to you, or a client requires us to collect information on their behalf. Generally, if appropriate, we will tell you why we are collecting personal information and how we plan to use it, or these things will be obvious when we collect the information. Generally, we will not disclose your personal information other than to parties who we have engaged to provide legal or administrative services, or activities on our behalf. Usually, we require these parties to protect the privacy of your personal information in the same way as we do.

If you are a client, or employed by a client, we usually collect personal information such as your business contact details, job title or position, and your expertise and interests. Where relevant, we may ask you for other information, for example, your membership of professional associations or boards or, in rare cases, financial information. We may collect other personal information in the course of providing legal services to you or your employer, or to someone else. If you are a job applicant, we will collect personal information that you provide to us voluntarily, and authorise us to obtain from others such as referees.

We only collect personal information where the collection of the personal information is lawful and necessary or related to our functions. Where we collect information, we will not do so in a manner which is unfair or unreasonably intrusive. The personal information collected by us will not be used or disclosed for any purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected without the consent of the person who provided the information.

We record your e-mail address if you send it to us in a message to us. It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to any external mailing lists. We will not use your e-mail address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it, without your consent.

Collection of Information on Website Activity

For statistical purposes, we collect information on website activity (such as the number of users who visit the website, the date and time of the visits, the number of pages viewed and navigation patterns) through the limited use of “cookies". This information on its own does not identify an individual, but it does provide us with statistics that we can use to analyse and improve our website. Most internet browsers are set up to accept cookies. If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may be able to change the settings of your browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to your computer, giving you the choice whether to accept it or not.

We use a variety of physical and electronic security measures, including restricting physical access to our offices, fire walls and secure databases, to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure. The internet is not a secure environment. If you use the internet to send us any information, including your email address, it is sent at your own risk.
