Robert was admitted as a Barrister in 1982 and as a Solicitor in 1991. He joined the firm in 1992 after working for several years as an administrative law specialist in a major international accountancy firm in Brisbane, and prior to that as a legal adviser to the Australian Customs Service in Canberra and Brisbane. Robert became a Partner of KING & COMPANY in 1998. Robert brought to the firm his expertise in relation to freedom of information, judicial review and administrative appeals. He advised the Australian Customs Service on almost identical Commonwealth legislation for 8 years. Since joining the firm, Robert has also developed a substantial practice in the conduct of Planning and Environment Court appeals and other proceedings. The balance of his time is devoted to administrative law and an expanding practice in industrial and other workplace law as it impacts upon local government. Robert is a member of the Queensland Environmental Law Association (“QELA") and an associate member of the Planning Institute of Australia – Queensland Division (“PIA"). Robert lives at Redcliffe with his wife, Tricia, and his 3 children, Kate, James and Sean. Outside of work, Robert enjoys travel with his wife and family, and has a particular interest in African nations. With his sons, James and Sean, he has visited South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Mozambique. Sean, James and Robert have together climbed Mt Kilimanjaro (the highest free-standing mountain in the world) and Mt Meru, cage-dived with great white sharks off Cape Town, and encountered the “big five” (lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo and rhino) countless times on numerous safaris. Robert sponsors two baby elephants, a baby black rhino and a caracal through African charities, and is a life member of the Painted Dog Conservation Inc. He also sponsors a child in Uganda and, with monies raised through King & Company staff, supports the Gozololo AIDS Orphanage in KwaZulu Natal outside Durban, and a tiny Maasai village on the Serengeti.
