Experience:

John has extensive experience in dispute resolution and litigation.

Admitted as a Solicitor in 1993, he has more than 30 years of experience in the conduct of matters before the Supreme Court and District Court of Queensland, Land Court and Land Appeal Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

Before joining our firm in 2000, John worked in government in the United Kingdom and for two other Queensland law firms practicing in disputes and litigation.

He provides strategic and practical advice to our clients on a wide range of contentious matters. The current focus of John’s practice involves:

• judicial review proceedings challenging local government and state government decisions;
• dispute resolution and litigation concerning infrastructure projects and the supply of services;
• local government rates and charges, budgets and governance; and
• compulsory acquisition and compensation matters.

John takes a proactive and personable approach aimed at best promoting positive outcomes for clients.  He has achieved repeated success in many of the most significant court cases in Queensland concerning local government rating powers.

John holds a current practising certificate from the Queensland Law Society. He is a member of the Queensland Environmental Law Association (QELA) and our firm's Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
