Local Government Law

Water & Waste

Providing legal advice on any issue relating to the interpretation and application of Queensland’s water legislation forms part of our local government legal opinion service and, accordingly, is one of the core areas of our practice.  That said, providing advice in relation to water specific issues involves knowledge of not only the water legislation, but a broader knowledge of other applicable State legislation that works with water-specific law.

We’ve delivered advice on a huge range of issues related to this area of local government law including alleged criminal liability of Councils who decide to fluoridate or discontinue fluoridation of their water supply, the levying of sewerage utility charges on properties not connected to a Council’s sewerage supply system, Councils’ obligation to supply water and at what standard to an area outside a Council’s declared water area, unapproved connections and disconnections of water meters, ownership of pipes and more.
